You can use store-bought frosting, or make your own from scratch with this recipe:

1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
1/2 cup shortening
3 cups powdered sugar

The cupcakes themselves are filled with a rich chocolate ganache and topped with cream cheese frosting. The hearts are piped in with a Wilton 1M tip. You can use any frosting color you like, but we chose red because it’s so festive for Valentine’s Day!
For this recipe, we used our favorite chocolate cake recipe (it’s moist and delicious). We also used store-bought chocolate frosting and the same ice cream that we use in our Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream Cake recipe (which is actually a super yummy ice cream sandwich flavor).
